Constitution of the Tony Leonardi Double Bass Association

As amended 22 March 2004

 

 

Article I: Name.

The name of this organization shall be the Tony Leonardi Double Bass Association.

 

Article II: Purpose.

Section 1. The purpose of this organization shall be to provide and promote opportunities for the performance of music written for the double bass, and to use its resources to promote the double bass studio, the Dana School of Music, and Youngstown State University to prospective students and the community.

 

Article III: Membership.

Section 1. Collegiate membership may be conferred upon any student of Youngstown State University with an interest in the double bass and in furthering the goals stated in Article II above.

Section 2. Community membership may be conferred upon any individual with an interest in the double bass and in furthering the goals stated in Article II above.

Section 3. Junior membership may be conferred upon any student enrolled in a K – 12 institution with an interest in the double bass and in furthering the goals stated in Article II above.

Section 4. Collegiate membership shall be the number referenced for official University purposes.

Section 5. No dues shall be required for the collegiate members of this organization.

 

Article IV: Officers and Elections.

Section 1. The executive committee of this organization shall consist of a president, 1st vice president, and 2nd vice president.

Section 2. Elections for these officers shall take place no later than the fourteenth (14) week of classes during spring semester.  Any collegiate member may be nominated for any position.  Those receiving a simple majority of votes shall take office at the end of the semester.

Section 3. The President shall

A.     Have the responsibility of setting an agenda for and running all meetings.

B.     Vote only in the event of a tie.

C.     Shall serve as the main liaison between the organization and University officials (i.e., the Director of the Dana School of Music, the Dean of the College of Fine and Performing Arts, et al) as well as between the junior, collegiate, and community members.

D.     Be responsible for regularly checking the organization’s mailbox in the Office of Student Activities.

Section 4. The 1st Vice President shall

A.     Be chiefly responsible for community service and fundraising events.

B.     Run meetings in the absence of the president.

C.     Obtain contact information from all members.

Section 5. The 2nd Vice President shall

A.     Document the minutes of all regular meetings.

B.     Manage the organization's finances.

C.     Be responsible for seeking donations or other forms of funding.

 

Article V: Meetings.

Section 1. Meetings shall take place weekly at a time and date convenient for collegiate members and the advisor(s).

Section 2. Junior and community members are welcome at all meetings.  Should a junior or community member wish to address the collegiate members but is unable to attend a meeting, s/he should contact the president.

 

Article VI: Voting and Quorum.

Section 1. No voting action may take place unless a quorum, defined as two-thirds (2/3) of collegiate membership, is present.  All collegiate members shall have voting privileges with the exception of the President.

Section 2. All issues before the organization (i.e., fundraising, events planning), with the exception of constitutional amendments, shall be decided upon by a consensus of the members unless a vote is requested.  In such a case, it will require a simple majority of votes to pass.

Section 3. Amendments to this constitution may be proposed at any meeting in written form by any member of the organization.  No vote on amendments shall occur until the next regularly scheduled meeting and will require a two-thirds (2/3) supermajority of votes to pass.  Unless the body of an amendment declares otherwise, it shall go into effect immediately following the meeting in which it passed.
